BLANDFORD SCHOOL

Blandford School Alumni say it is the "coolest school" in Grand Rapids because of the unique hands-on educational experience and natural, historic learning environment. Located at Blandford Nature Center, the classroom is as much in the ponds, streams, woods, and fields as it is in the school building. The place-based curriculum is designed to incorporate the school's natural setting to provide hands-on experiences that fulfill requirements in each subject area. Blandford offers special units of instruction on biology, cartography, computer literacy, rocks and minerals, forestry, Native American culture, Michigan History, pioneer experiences, and so much more. Students also learn how to run their own business by tending to chickens and then marketing and selling eggs.

Please check our FAQ page for more information about our school and our INFO page for current events, newsletters, calendars, lunch menus, and more.

APPLICATION INFO

You can download an application from the Grand Rapids Public Schools Website, www.grpublicschools.org . Please call Student Services at (616) 819-3276 for selection information. Our Blandford School Staff does not make the selections, and the most current information is available at the Student Services office.

Applicants who are not currently attending a Grand Rapids Public School will have to take a Writing Prompt and may also need to take a MAP Test. You will need to pre-register for these tests. Please see page 2 of the application for the contact information and dates that these tests will be given.

If you receive a Selection Letter, you must complete the bottom portion of that letter within two weeks so that GRPS Student Services staff can reserve a seat for your child. Please note that the acceptance form on the lower portion of that letter needs to be returned to GRPS Student Services at 1331 Franklin SE. Please do not return the acceptance form to Blandford School or Zoo School.
